Tree house

build A tree house? - how hard can it be?

I had promised the kids a tree house, and taken some pix of some interesting ones when visiting up north.

I didnt really plan it per se, the idea was that the wood for the main structure came in 3 meter lengths, so I would make the base a hexagon and cut the bits in half to make 1.5 meter sides.

BUT when the wood came it was in 4 meter lengths...so i ended up with a hexagon base with 2 meter sides, which gave me a floor area of 12m sq. Effing huge.

I put it up on my own which was tricky.....each segment had to be propped up until the hexagon was complete. It took a day to erect the frame...and then I made some minor adjustments to the bracketry.....and it all fell down...and took half a day to put back up again.

The joists and the flooring took another day or so. I’ve made a trapdoor and theres a rope ladder to climb up.

The kids love it and like to have their meals up there. I’m thinking of a second one higher up and further into the woods with a chain bridge linking the two...
