so long to the old Salon
so long to the old Salon
Finally a place to sit

The Salon was the worst room in the house. It had a once stunning mahogany floor, laid on oak joists in turn laid on the bare earth. Over time - insects, wet rot, mice and rats took their toll. The floor was completely rotted, so much so that an attempt to cross the room was quite perilous.
The void beneath the floor was home to generations of rats, their nests were tightly packed with plastic and old bits of clothing, gathered over the decades.
I saved a few floor boards to repair the bedroom floors, but all the rest went on the fire.
Monsieur Landauer the gardener is a whizz with concrete so we got him to pour a concrete floor over a plastic membrane. Quite an undertaking as the floor area is 35sq meters.
I’ve done my plastering bit, hundreds of kilos of the stuff, and laid a click and fit floor, we still have a few details to finish, more paint and some skirting boards, but the room is now eerily different!
